Practice Times and Locations
The Portland Kendo Club offers classes for every level. If you are interested in joining but don't have any experience in kendo, please visit our Beginner Class Page. If you have kendo experience and would like to join or visit, please contact us. For schedule changes and cancellations, visit our Facebook Page.
We teach three beginner classes a year. They last for approximately three months, starting in January, April, and September.
Ages 7-12. Our kids class focuses on teaching good manners, etiquette, and focus. They also learn how to do kendo, which we hear makes the kids nice and sleepy by bedtime. If you are interested in joining, please visit our Kids Class page.
Regular Practice (Keiko)
Our regular members practice. We generally start with kata and warmups for the first thirty minutes, then move into basics and finally jigeiko.
This practice for regular members starts with warmups, footwork, and then kihon (basics) drills, with a focus on improving mechanics as well as overall endurance.
This portion of Tuesday practice is focused on bogu members. We tend to practice waza and end with mawari-geiko or jigeiko.
