The First Day of (Beginners) Class
This is important! If you haven't registered for our beginner class, please do so first (before showing up). We tend to fill up fast, and we are generally unable to take drop-ins. [Learn More]
Before arriving on the first day, please be sure to print and fill out a waiver form. If everyone has this done before arriving, everything goes much more quickly. That means we can start sooner.
What to Wear
We recommend you wear shorts and a tshirt. This will allow us to see your arms, hands, legs, and feet, which make it easier to give instruction. Don't wear something tight fitting that is difficult to move in (for example: jeans aren't great). We'll ask you to take your shoes and socks off too, before you enter the practice area.
There is parking in back of the building. If it fills up, there is usually plenty of free street parking around the building.
When you arrive to the first class, someone will confirm that you've paid and filled out the waiver form.
Receiving a Shinai
Someone will give you a shinai (practice sword), unpackage it from its wrapping, and write your name on it. This is your shinai to keep, now! Some things to keep in mind:
- Don't lean on it, use it like a walking stick, etc.
- Please don't swing it around!
Start Learning Kendo!
After everyone has completed the above, we can get started! If you can, please arrive 15-20 minutes early, as that will allow us to get the logistics out of the way and start on time.
